Recognize warning signs of grooming

9-12, 6-8Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For older students who may not see warning signs when an adult or older person gives gifts, asks for secrets, isolates them, or asks for photos. Present levels decide fit. Scenarios stay non-graphic.

Baseline
Use 10 non-graphic scenarios with a mix of safe and unsafe adults. Let the student skip any. Score judgment, sign, and who to tell.
Tips
Teach that it is never the young person's fault. Follow mandated reporting for any disclosure. Use the district's approved prevention program alongside this goal.
Limits
Scenario answers do not guarantee recognition in real life. The IEP goal never replaces mandated reporting or a safety plan.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 short non-graphic scenarios of adults or older people interacting with a teen, some showing warning signs, the student will say whether each scenario shows a warning sign, name the sign, and name who to tell independently with 100% accuracy on warning sign scenarios, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Baseline: 40% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Relationships, Boundaries & Personal Safety.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
