Use practiced words during snack and play

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For children who say practice words in therapy but not in daily routines. Present levels decide fit. Choose words that come up naturally many times a day.

Baseline
List the practiced words and their natural moments. Watch 10 such moments across a few days and record whether the student used the word, a different form (gesture, point), or nothing.
Tips
Score the word as used when it has the practiced syllable shape, even if a sound is off. Share the word list and practiced forms with every adult. Respond to every attempt so the word works for the child.
Limits
Natural opportunities vary by day; pool across settings. Family logs are useful but not identical to school data; label them. The goal does not measure accuracy in drill.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during preschool snack, centers, or play, when an opportunity for one of 6 to 8 practiced words comes up naturally, the student will say the practiced word with its practiced syllable shape to request, name, or comment independently in at least 6 of 10 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by direct observation collected 3 times per week.

Baseline: 1 of 10 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Motor Speech (Apraxia & Dysarthria).

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
