Act on spoken information from community staff

When to use this goal

For transition-age students who need to act on what store, pharmacy, transit, or office staff tell them ("Your order will be ready in 10 minutes at the side counter"; "Take the second bus, not this one"). Base the choice on community instruction data and the student's transition plan.

Baseline
On two outings, record each spoken instruction staff give and whether the student acts on it, asks, or misses it. Supplement with role-play when outings are rare.
Tips
Each staff instruction is one opportunity, scored correct when the student acts on it or asks a clarifying question. Asking is always a good outcome. Coordinate with the transition team so data are collected on real outings.
Limits
Real instructions vary in clarity, speed, and noise. The goal does not measure travel or purchasing skills.
