Ask a librarian for help finding an item

6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For middle school students who wander the shelves or leave without the item they came for. Asking can be spoken, typed, written, or played on AAC; present levels decide the mode, not grade.

Baseline
Plan an item the student wants before each of 3 to 5 visits. Score correct when the student starts the request and finds the item with the librarian's directions.
Tips
Librarians are glad to help; asking is a skill the student will use in many places. Pair with the library checkout goal.
Limits
Busy desks may mean waiting; pair with the waiting plan if needed.
