Inquire about openings at a local business
When to use this goal
For students 16 to 21 seeking jobs at local stores, restaurants and businesses that still hire through walk-in inquiries. Present levels in communication and community travel decide supports; the job coach stays nearby at first.
- Baseline
- Start with a role-play, then observe one real inquiry from a distance. Mark each step; note whether the student asked to speak with a manager or gave up when the first employee did not know.
- Tips
- Pick quiet times so the visit does not disrupt the business. The pitch comes from tn-js-010. The job coach fades from inside the store to outside as steps become independent.
- Limits
- Many employers now hire only online; choose businesses that accept inquiries. Outcomes depend on the manager's availability.
