Sort sample messages into scams and real ones

When to use this goal

For students with a phone or email account who click links or reply to messages asking for money or account details. Needs reading short messages or hearing them read; present levels decide fit, not grade.

Baseline
Use a new set of messages each probe so the student is judging, not remembering. Score a scam as correct only when it is marked scam and a warning sign is named.
Tips
Scams cost money and data, so the target is every message. Teach the safe response for any unsure message: do not click, check through the official app or number, or ask a trusted adult.
Limits
Real scams change quickly; refresh the message set each term. Spotting on samples does not show the student's response to a real message; pair with the gift card or fraud alert goals.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 8 sample texts and emails, some scams and some real (a bank alert, a delivery notice, a prize message, a job offer), the student will mark each message as scam or real and name one warning sign for each scam independently in 8 of 8 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
