Hand the remote microphone to a new speaker
When to use this goal
For students who use a remote microphone and miss what guest speakers, specials teachers, or peers say because the microphone stays with the classroom teacher. Present levels in self-advocacy and in device use decide fit.
- Baseline
- Ask the teacher to log speaker changes for two weeks and whether the microphone moved, and who moved it.
- Tips
- A short card that explains the microphone helps strangers. Some students prefer the teacher to pass it; respect that choice and plan it.
- Limits
- Some speakers refuse or forget; score the student's action. Hearing technology is one access route the family and student chose; it does not replace sign language, captions, or other visual access where the student uses them.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
