Request captions or transcripts that are missing
When to use this goal
For students who are deaf or hard of hearing who meet uncaptioned videos, assemblies, podcasts, or announcements and do not ask for access. Present levels in self-advocacy decide fit.
- Baseline
- Keep a log with the student of uncaptioned material for a month and whether they asked. Teachers can add items they noticed.
- Tips
- Every request needs a quick answer. Uncaptioned material should become rare as staff learn; the count is expected to fall.
- Limits
- Access is the school's responsibility; the goal adds the student's voice. Hearing technology is one access route the family and student chose; it does not replace sign language, captions, or other visual access where the student uses them.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
