Respond during circle time when named or cued

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who sit in circle but do not respond when their name is called, their turn comes, or the group does an action. Base the choice on current responding. Any mode counts: a word, a sign, a device, a gesture, or doing the action.

Baseline
Record the first 5 cues per circle time for 3 days: responded within 5 seconds, responded after a prompt, or no response. Note the cue type; many students respond to action songs before they respond to a name. Check hearing and receptive language with the team if responding is rare across all cues.
Tips
Make cues frequent and the turns short. Accept any communication mode and any clear response, including a glance toward the teacher for a student who is just starting. Pair with bh-cls-005 if staying in the circle is also a need; score only cues given while the student is in the circle.
Limits
Five cues per day is a small sample; summarize over the week. Does not measure language skills; the speech-language area covers responding to questions.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during circle time when the teacher calls the student's name for attendance, a job, or a turn, the student will respond to the name or cue within 5 seconds (answers, raises a hand, does the action, or selects a picture) independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive data collection days, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected daily during circle time, first 5 cues.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Classroom Expectations & Routines.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
