Make a play plan and carry it out
When to use this goal
For young students who wander between centers during choice time without settling. A short plan (I will go to the art center and paint) gives a goal. Present levels, not grade, decide the plan mode.
- Baseline
- Record five choice times: was a plan given, and did the child go to that center and start? Note full centers, which force a change.
- Tips
- Changing the plan when a center is full is a flexibility skill; count it as met if the child makes a new plan. Accept any communication mode.
- Limits
- Measures the start of the plan, not how long the child stays. Peers can change the plan.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, at the start of choice or center time, when the teacher asks each child for a plan, the student will name or show a center and an activity, then go to that center and start the activity independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks of data, as measured by direct observation collected daily, summarized weekly.

Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Planning.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
