Stay with the class through a school assembly
When to use this goal
For students who leave or are taken out of assemblies early because of the noise, crowd, or length. Present levels and observation at real assemblies decide fit. This is an access goal: the student uses tools and a planned exit, and the team adjusts seating and sound before expecting longer stays.
- Baseline
- Record the minutes from the start of the assembly to the moment the student leaves the seating area, at 2 or 3 assemblies or practice sessions. Note the volume and the type of event; a pep rally and a play are different tasks.
- Tips
- Preview the assembly with photos or a short video, and let the student choose the tools. A planned break that ends with a return to the seat counts as staying. Rising minutes should come with fewer adult prompts, not with removing the break option.
- Limits
- Assemblies vary in sound and length, so data are uneven. If the student shows distress, the team changes the setting first; this goal never asks the student to endure sound that hurts.
