Use a task app instead of coach prompts

When to use this goal

For students who rely on the job coach to say what comes next and are ready to use a picture, video or checklist app on a phone or tablet. Present levels in device use decide the app and the number of steps shown.

Baseline
Count task changes in a typical shift. Record whether the student used the app on their own, after an alert or only after a coach prompt.
Tips
Build the app content with the student, using photos or videos from the real site. Self-prompting tools let the job coach fade and travel with the student to new jobs.
Limits
Some sites limit phone use; agree on rules with the supervisor. App reliability and battery matter.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at each task change during a work-based learning shift, with a task app on own phone or tablet, the student will independently check the task app and start the next task without a prompt from the job coach in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive shifts, as measured by direct observation collected at each shift.

Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Vocational & Work Readiness.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
