Pass a shared dish at family-style snack

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young children who grab from shared bowls, take the whole dish, or do not pass it on during family-style snack or lunch. Fits children who can hold a light bowl with two hands; observed family-style meals, not age, decide fit.

Baseline
Record five passes over a week: took a serving and passed, kept the dish, grabbed from it before it arrived, or needed adult help. Note whether trouble is motor (holding a bowl steady) or waiting; each needs a different first step.
Tips
Family-style meals give many natural chances to practice passing, waiting and asking for food. Use light, unbreakable bowls and small amounts. Pair with a request goal so the child can also ask for a dish to be passed to them.
Limits
Food textures, liquid thickness, positioning for safe swallowing and any swallowing precautions come from the student's feeding or swallowing plan, which this goal never changes. Children on a restricted diet may need their own food rather than shared dishes; keep their safe foods separate. Measures the passing routine, not how much the child eats.
