Follow a picture schedule left to right

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who look at schedule pictures in random order, so a visual schedule does not help them know what comes next. Left-to-right scanning also supports early reading. Fit depends on schedule observation, not age.

Baseline
Record five schedule checks and whether the student found the next item in order. Check that the student understands the pictures; this goal is about order.
Tips
A green start dot is a simple cue. Moving finished pictures to a pocket shows what is next. Coordinate with the classroom team so all schedules run left to right.
Limits
Measures order scanning, not following the schedule; behavior goals cover the rest.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when checking a horizontal schedule of 6 activities with finished items moved to a pocket, the student will point to the first picture on the left and move to the next picture in order independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected daily at schedule checks.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Visual-Motor & Visual-Perceptual Skills.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
