Communicate a lunch choice in the cafeteria with the device
When to use this goal
For students who use their system in class but not in the cafeteria, where unfamiliar staff, noise, and a line make it harder. A daily lunch choice is a natural, repeated opportunity. Base the choice on observation in the cafeteria.
- Baseline
- Observe 5 lunch lines and record whether the student orders on the device, points, or has an adult order for them. Talk with cafeteria staff about waiting and looking at the device. Make sure the lunch page has the menu items and is easy to reach in the line.
- Tips
- Each lunch is one opportunity, scored independent when the student gives their choice to the server on the device without an adult prompt during the exchange (opening the page beforehand is a listed support). Brief cafeteria staff on waiting 10 seconds. Update the page with the weekly menu. The same template works for ordering in the community.
- Limits
- The menu changes and pages need updating, which is a programming load. Lines move fast, so staff cooperation decides whether the opportunity exists. The template measures one routine, not general device use.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
