When to use this goal
For students who get stuck inside a folder after one message and select whatever is on that page next, so their second message makes no sense. Present levels and device settings, not grade, decide fit. Some devices can return home automatically; the team decides whether that setting or this skill fits.
- Baseline
- Record 6 message changes and whether the student returned home, stayed in the old folder, or used back buttons. Note whether the device setting returns home on its own after a selection; turn that off for the probe only if the team has chosen to teach the skill.
- Tips
- Each change from one folder's message to another's is one opportunity, scored independent when the student returns home before the next selection. Partners can model returning home on the student's device while talking. Combine with sl-aac-010 for finding the folder.
- Limits
- This is a small operational step; if the device can return home automatically and the student does well with that, the goal may not be needed. It does not measure what the student says.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, during a structured activity with 6 messages, each starting from a different folder, the student will press the home button after finishing a message and start the next message from the home page independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive therapy sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected during each therapy session.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
