Ask a peer for a turn
When to use this goal
For young students who request from adults but take items from peers or wait without asking. Present levels decide fit. The request can be a word, a sign, a picture, a device message, or holding out a hand.
- Baseline
- Record 6 moments when a peer has something the student wants, and what the student does: asks, takes, waits, or leaves. Planned set-ups with a coached peer give quicker data.
- Tips
- Coach peers to listen for the student's mode (a sign or device message) and respond. A peer saying "Not yet" is fine; the goal is asking, not always getting. Score asking in any mode.
- Limits
- Peer responses vary, which affects whether the student keeps asking; coach the peers. The goal covers requests only; play-social-participation covers joining and sharing play.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
