Trade a shift the approved way

When to use this goal

For working students who skip a shift or ask a friend to cover it informally when a conflict comes up. Present levels in planning and workplace communication, not grade, decide fit; check first that the workplace allows swaps.

Baseline
Learn the employer's swap rule first. Run practice scenarios and record whether the student asks a coworker, gets approval and updates the calendar, and how they handled any real conflicts. Use practice scenarios first, then real workplace moments once the student has a job or work experience placement, and agree with the employer or job coach on who records real events.
Tips
An opportunity is scored only when every part of the swap happens: the trade, the approval and the calendar update. Teach that a swap is not final until the supervisor approves it.
Limits
Not every workplace allows swaps; use the time-off request template instead when they do not. Real conflicts are irregular, so data may be sparse.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when the student has a conflict with a scheduled shift at a workplace that allows shift swaps, the student will ask a coworker to trade, get the supervisor's approval through the required form or app, and update their own calendar independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive data collection periods, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 0 of 5 opportunities.
