Complete a paragraph frame about a choice

3-5, 6-8OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students with significant support needs who write or select single words and short sentences and are ready for a short organized paragraph using a frame. Present levels should describe the student's writing mode (pencil, keyboard, word bank, AAC).

Baseline
Over five sessions with different topics, record each completed frame and the support used. Count a frame as met when all blanks are filled and the reasons fit the choice.
Tips
Pick topics the student cares about (music, food, a sport, a place). The frame shows paragraph structure even before the student can write one alone. Fade parts of the frame one at a time.
Limits
Frames provide the structure; the goal measures filling it meaningfully, not independent organization. Repeated frames can become rote; change topics often. Spelling is not scored.

Original IEP Atlas template based on general measurement principles; not copied from any goal bank. ID wr-par-035.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a five-sentence paragraph frame with spaces for a favorite thing, two reasons, and a closing, and a picture word bank, the student will fill in every space in the paragraph frame so the topic, two reasons, and closing all fit the student's choice, then read or play it back independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 4 consecutive weeks of data, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Paragraph Organization.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
