Inspect a finished job task for quality
When to use this goal
For older students and young adults in work-based learning or a school job whose tasks (folding, stocking, cleaning a table, assembling a kit) are done but not always to standard. Present levels decide whether the checklist uses words, pictures, or photos of the finished standard.
- Baseline
- For one or two shifts, record each finished task and whether the student checked it before reporting it done, and whether it met the standard when reported. Ask the supervisor which quality misses matter most on the job.
- Tips
- Each finished task is one opportunity; met means the student checked, fixed what was needed, and reported it done at standard. Photos of the finished standard work well for any reading level. Move the checklist to the student's phone to fit how coworkers work.
- Limits
- Work sites change tasks; keep the checklists current. Measures checking before reporting, not speed or stamina on the job.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, after completing an assigned task at a work-based learning site, with a photo checklist of the finished standard, the student will compare the finished task with each checklist item, fix any item that does not meet the standard, and then report the task as finished to the supervisor independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive weeks at the work site, as measured by direct observation collected each work shift, summarized weekly.
Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Self-Monitoring.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
