Ask for a turn during group games

PK, K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who grab, wait silently, or leave during turn-taking games and songs because they have no quick way to ask for a turn. "My turn" on a button, device, or sign gives them one. Base the choice on observation of group play.

Baseline
Record six turn moments and what the student does: asks, grabs, waits, or leaves. Note which mode is quickest for the student; for turn requests, a single button may be faster than navigating.
Tips
Each turn moment is one opportunity, scored independent when the student asks for the turn in any mode before taking the item. Give the turn right away when asked. Grabbing is communication too; respond calmly and model the message.
Limits
Turn opportunities depend on the group and game. The goal does not measure waiting or other children's behavior.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a small-group game, song, or story with turns that the adult offers in a pattern, the student will ask for a turn with "my turn" on the device, a sign, or a recorded button independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 3 consecutive sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected during each therapy session and twice weekly in the classroom.

Baseline: 1 of 6 opportunities.
